Screening of THE LIBRARIANS + discussion

Winner of the 2025 Perfect Award – LGBTIQ+ Memories Prize awarded by the City of Geneva, THE LIBRARIANS takes us into the heart of the massive censorship of books in the United States. The film sheds light on the political and ideological mechanisms at work, as well as the resistance led by librarians.
The screening of this both disturbing and enlightening film will be followed by a discussion on the situation in Switzerland: are we seeing similar dynamics? What are the issues surrounding access to knowledge and rights today?

Everybody’s Perfect is invited to the Palais des Nations with a selection of international short films exploring the theme “At the Heart of Democracy”.
Open to all, this evening is organised by UN-GLOBE Geneva and co-sponsored by the Permanent Missions of Mexico, the United Kingdom and Spain to the United Nations in Geneva, the United Nations Office at Geneva and UNAIDS.
The selection, featuring films from different countries around the world, places democracy and the defence of human rights at the heart of their concerns. Spain, Switzerland, Brazil, the United Kingdom and Mexico come together here to highlight LGBTIQ+ artistic expressions and lived experiences.

In partnership with the Swiss Cinémathèque, Xenix Kino in Zurich welcomes Everybody’s Perfect as part of its Queer Film History Schweiz?
The festival presents a retrospective of short films selected from its beginnings in 2010. From the first lesbian kiss in French-speaking Swiss cinema to the political gesture of a Lebanese artist, from animation to lyrical flights: between intimacy, fantasy and reality, this programme takes us on a journey across five continents through award-winning films.
What is queer cinema, queer filmmaking and queer aesthetics in Switzerland? How does Swiss queer filmmaking fit into the international context? What is the relationship between legislation and cultural life? “Queer Film History Schweiz?” explores these questions while necessarily remaining incomplete, as important works and figures are missing. Alongside festivals such as Pink Apple Festival, Queersicht and Porny Days, Everybody’s Perfect thus helps highlight the essential role of festivals as spaces for the circulation, preservation and networking of queer cinema.

As part of the Swiss Cinémathèque’s film series dedicated to queer cinema from the 1990s to the present day, Everybody’s Perfect has chosen this film for its unique exploration of the wondrous. This breathtaking work, a timeless sensory experience, plunges us into an in-between world. Winner of the Jury Prize at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival, and screened here on 35mm film, Tropical Malady is composed of two parts: one on the edge of naturalism, the other at the heart of legends. It tells the story of the peaceful romance between Keng, a soldier, and Tong, a country boy. Their love story takes an unexpected turn when Keng ventures into the jungle to hunt a wild beast he believes to be the reincarnation of his lover…

As part of the second instalment of its film series dedicated to queer cinema, the Swiss Cinémathèque invites Switzerland’s leading queer film festivals to share their perspectives on queer cinema in Switzerland and the challenges they face today. What paths have these festivals taken, what obstacles have they encountered, and what challenges lie ahead? How have the rise of queer films, the democratisation of streaming platforms and pinkwashing changed – or not – their artistic approaches?

As part of the Lausanne Pride’s cultural programme, Everybody’s Perfect joins forces with Cinématographe to present Valentine Cadic’s gentle and distinctive comedy, Le rendez-vous de l’été.
Blandine has travelled alone from Normandy to attend the 2024 Paris Olympic Games and support swimmer Béryl Gastaldello. But she is turned away at the entrance to the competitions because her backpack is too large. Thrown off balance by the feverish atmosphere, this awkward and introverted woman in her thirties faces one setback after another, while still determined to make the most of her week-long holiday. A naturalistic portrait of an unconventional woman, sensitive to the serendipity of the world, this film – carried by a subtle and nuanced performance – is deeply tender and funny, evoking both Eric Rohmer and Jacques Tati.
