café cinéma
Modeled after philosophy cafés, the Everybody’s Perfect café cinéma are a novelty this year! Come discuss and share insights about films. Led by a facilitator, the discussion allows participants to gather and discuss. Come and exchange ideas so that the lasting power of film does not end once you vacate your seat.
How has cinema shaped our lives or influenced our choices?
Given that cinema reflects the society we live in and considering the derogatory portrayals of LGBTIQ+ characters throughout its history, we can legitimately question the way we have viewed ourselves. Do we view ourselves as sick or crazy? Do we stay in the closet for fear of resembling the monsters depicted on-screen? Anything to avoid becoming that caricature from La Cage aux Folles or Gazon Maudit…
Can we change the way we exist in the world with the help of the movies? Or perhaps these crypto-gay images also fueled the most thrilling fantasies? How many feelings have been repressed and how many passions stifled so as not to betray the desires stirred up by the silver screen? And at the same time, how many coming-outs or declarations of love have been encouraged by the strength of the protagonists?
