ATELIER : Trouble dans le masculin FILM ANALYSIS WORKSHOP

Film clips are used to deconstruct the images of masculinity assigned over time by cinema to gay men, lesbian women, women seeking emancipation, and trans men.

Interacting with the audience, this workshop has fun dissecting and deciphering stereotypes that have stood the test of time through a series of questions: how did “sissies” happily transgress masculine norms? How did female action heroes have to choose to masculinize themselves in order to assert themselves? What codes did men have to assimilate in order not to be perceived as gay? How did cinema impose on lesbians to be either butch and authoritarian or femme and submissive? How did trans men learn to perform masculinity? …
