Des sentiers boueux de la Seconde Guerre mondiale aux piscines californiennes, Touko Laaksonen a mené un long trajet et libéré l’imagination de générations d’hommes gays à travers le monde, grâce à ses talents de dessinateur. Le film retrace son parcours pour devenir Tom of Finland, du soldat officier à l’artiste célébré en passant par sa carrière de graphiste dans une agence de publicité à Helsinki. Il est passionnant de prendre conscience du cheminement de cet homme qui a fait des obstacles homophobes. Qui a utilisé l’art comme « le plus court chemin de l’homme à l’homme ».
