À Nairobi, Kena et Ziki mènent des vies de lycéennes bien différentes mais essaient, chacune à leur façon, de poursuivre leurs rêves. Elles se rencontrent lors de la campagne électorale au cours de laquelle s’affrontent leur père respectif. Dans une société kenyane conservatrice, les deux jeunes femmes vont être contraintes de choisir entre amour et sécurité. Porté par l’authenticité des deux jeunes actrices, c’est un film positif qui explose d’amour, de délicatesse et de couleurs. Après six ans de production, Rafiki, premier film kenyan présenté à Cannes, est promis à une longue carrière, alors qu’il vient d’être interdit de diffusion dans son pays.
